Bass GuitarsBass guitars are bass stringed instruments that are played primarily by the fingers by plucking, slapping, popping or tapping or using a pick. Although bass guitars are similar in construction to electric guitars, they have a larger body, longer neck and scale length and usually four strings tuned one octave lower in pitch than the four lower strings of the electric guitar. Bass guitars have been used in many genres of music such as rock, metal, blues, jazz, fusion, Latin and funk. The first bass guitars came onto the scene in the 1930s when inventor Paul Tutmarc invented the first guitar style electric bass guitars that were fretted and designed for horizontal playing. These guitars never caught the public's eye and so the model was never further invented. In the 1950s, Leo Fender developed the first mass produced electric bass guitars with the Fender Precision Bass released in 1951 becoming the most copied industry standard. Following Fender's lead a number of bass guitars were released from other manufacturers such as Gibson's EB-0 Bass and Thunderbird. With the gain in popularity of rock music in the 1960s more bass guitars were manufactured and Fender released a number of new models such as the Jazz Bass and the Mustang Bass. The 1970s saw the release of Music Man Instruments from Leo Fender which produced the StingRay, the first widely produced model of bass guitars with active electronics. In 1971, Alembic released "boutique" electric bass guitars that were expensive, tailor-made instruments featuring unique designs, premium wooden bodies with a hand finishing, onboard electronics and innovative construction techniques. In the late 1980s MTV's "unplugged" show helped to popularize hollow-bodied acoustic bass guitars amplified with pickups while in the 1990s, five string bass guitars emerged as a more affordable and widely available make. From the 2000s, bass guitar manufacturers included digital modeling circuits inside the bass guitars to recreate tones and sounds from many models of basses and in 2006, Fender's P-bass celebrated its 60th anniversary. www.mccshoponline.com is an online musical store where you can find a wide variety of guitars from acoustic guitars to bass guitars.
